As the title says, I would like to have Reaper connect to the hardware interface for the lowest latency. Then I would like to have JackAudio i.e. QJackCtl settings have devices ASIO::ReaRoute as selected device. I can use the Jack channels for Media players, Browser, Messenger apps, OBS, extra devices etc. and be routed around without interrupting reaper effectively or going through an intermediary. I am concerned that I would introduce extra latency or post likey it might not work if I mix jack router on ASIO::<any USB interface> with the rest of the system sounds which are running on the windows shared driver (Wasapi or whichever that might be). I want to have those channels on the side but at the moment it didn't work for me and I would really like to know if the problem is with me not putting the right settings or if there is a technical reason they can't mix. I suspect they should be able to mix maybe with improved compatibility on either or both applications' sides.

A small update. I managed to load Reaper under windows with the Asio driver for the Roland UA-25EX. About 10ms total latency for in and out. Then somehow I managed to turn the Jack server on and I was able to see ReaRoute 16in-outs and 4/5 Midi channels under the patch bay. I selected portaudio and then ASIO::ReaRoute option. I matched the settings manually even. I wanted to test it and connect some channels for a feedback loop but that didn't work. Problem: * I haven't been able to replicate it, because jack keeps throwing errors at the last stage of initializing. * I wasn't able to connect channels across. * Is it possible to add any other devices in the patch bay in those circumstances even? I mean at least ASIO devices!? If possible I would like to add others that don't have to run synchronously at all. Note: I can use another VST host (even OBS) to capture the desktop audio and then send it via ReaStream but that's not so elegant. I could do it with the standard windows driver but it works best when the windows audio output sink is VBcable. Under those circumstances, I get everything windows gets it would be best to be able to get them application by application and channel per channel as Jack in theory would allow me to do.
I just can't believe that in 2022 we can't have any software for virtual routing for Windows that simply works! I didn't bother trying to do much complicated stuff as I had an old Scarlett, but now I bought Audient id44 and Steinberg URRT2 and none of them is capable of routing across apps! I tried Jack2 but I can't set it up for the life of me, with any of the tutorials... This software looks dated as hell anyway. Voicemeeter is absolutely impenetrable as well, and all I want to do is record Firefox audio into Reaper while also monitoring instrument input! Talking about recording your jams from youtube, IMPOSSIBLE my friends! Some of those interfaces do have the Loopback function, Audient manages to do what I want it to(albeit with limited options) but actually the drivers are not stable at all, so I'm wondering if I can achieve anything with that Steinberg unit. God, 10 years ago I already thought it was ludicrous not to be able to do that, but now... Pretty soon I'm going to have to just bite the bullet and buy Babyface, if the lore about RME's mixing software has any merit. .
