Hi all, the timing belt on my Volvo S70 2.4 10v is very noisy of late and I am just wondering is there a problem or is this just normal. The belt was replaced 20k miles ago, maybe the rattle was always there but I never noticed it over the 70k miles I've done in it. Could anybody tell me if their is a problem and if so, how do I rectify it? Thanks.

Hello, was the timing belt tensioner replaced at the same time as the belt? If not that could possibly be the cause of the rattle, replace it quick before it collapses and takes your timing belt and engine with it.

It could be a worn coolingwater pump. Lars

Get that cover off straight away and check what is making the noise. It should run silently, as all are either hydraulically tensioned, or via a spring- i.e. automatically, so its not possible to see it too loose or too tight (which would make it noisy) You have something not right- dont drive the car until its sorted. Valves will meet pistons if the belt breaks or comes off for what ever reason. Tim..
