I finally got this fixed up, so I figured I'd condense this all to a single post for those who might run into this problem. I was running LE 6.5 on a single hard drive 1.6 Ghz computer. Windows XP Service Pack 1 and 512 Mb Ram. I mainly only use it for Singer/Songwriting demos (4 tracks max, not many plug ins). The error messages: "Audio Processing is conflicting w/ other CPU tasks, try reducing H/W buffer size" After Reducing the buffer size, I would get.... "Operating system held off interrupts for too long, try increasing H/W buffer size." After exhausting every option (defragmenting, ect.), I found this solution....... -----------from ------------ Run REGEDIT. Go to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} It has subkeys like 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. Normally 0001 is the primary IDE channel, 0002 the secondary, but other numbers can occur under certain circumstances. Check the DriverDesc value to see which one it is. Delete MasterIdDataChecksum or SlaveIdDataChecksum, depending on whether the device in question is attached as master or slave, but it can't actually hurt to delete both. Reboot. The drive DMA capabilities will be redetected. Open Device Manager again and check whether the device is now actually using DMA mode. If so, congratulations, you've made it (at least until the next time Windows disables DMA). -------------------------------------------------------------------- My addition, make sure you go through each subkey 0000, 0001, 0002, ect and delete all of the MasterIDDataChecksum and SlaveIdDataChecksum entries. This cleared the problem right up. Special Thanks to the following people who helped me through this problem. They have a great deal of information and were very generous in offering help. I compiled my fix here for simplicity's sake, but it was only because of them.
