I once did it via Bittorrent (filesharing): - advantage: Your partner can pull the files immediately from your HD, no need to wait for him until you've uploaded them somewhere (just send hime the BT link). - disadvantage: You should have a fast internet connection with a decent upload speed and you must have your computer running until the transfer is finished.

I've done done a file transfer using Windows Live Instant messenger before.
